Today we conduct the case analysis - an exercise in the use of influence.

 

Learning Objectives:

4.   Be able to make sense of power dynamics in organizations.

Case Analysis #4: “No, Sir, Sergeant”, pp.63-69. Due Friday.

For class discussion consider:

 

1. What is the conflict here?

2. What is the organization's (the Army) norm for resolving conflict in such situations as you see here?

3. Describe the sources of power for Fenceroy and for Mitre.

4. Was Fenceroy's exercise of authority successful? Why? Should it have been? Why?

5. What is Mitre's responsibility to his troop? to the Army?

6.  If you were Mitre, how would you handle this situation?

7. How is the organization's (Army's) goals best achieved in resolving this conflict?

8. What is "leadership" in the context of this case?
