Week 1: Day 2
Introduction to Course: Internet Laboratory


This module coincides with an available PC lab. If we are unable to obtain the lab on this day, simply go to the next module for Day 3. We will return to the Internet Laboratory when it can be scheduled. If you miss this class, you are responsible for familiarity with the Internet and, especially, with the resources available at www.mgmtguru.com, Dr. Makamson's website.

The objectives for today are that the student will:

1. Know how to access the Internet at HU and Dr. Makamson's website, a resource used in the course;
2. Learn how to navigate the website, access course related materials, use the forms, access password protected areas, and download class materials;
3. Find out how to establish an e-mail account, if the student does not already have one.


1. Dr. Makamson will notify the class as to the location of the laboratory. It is usually located at the ATM, 5th floor of the Harvey Library. A sign will be posted at the regular classroom notifying students of the location.

2. Demonstrations:

a. How to access the Internet using the IE browser

b. How to locate a URL using search engines and the website address and using a bookmark (Navigator) or favorite (IE).

c. Management Guru website-

i. Organization of the site and finding your way around using links and site search engine
ii. History and FAQ
iii. Caveats of using the Internet and Dr. Makamson's notices
iv. MGT301 homepage and subsidiary links to syllabus, teaching notes, and assignments
v. Downloading materials and printing from a website
vi. Password protected areas: e-mail addresses and grades
vii. Posting of grades: policies and updating of grades
viii. Forms: student information and leadership evaluations
ix. Links from the site and how organized
x. Internet tutorials and Self-Tests
xi. Free e-mail registration and other free Internet support services
xii. Creating your own web site

d. Buying textbooks on the Internet.
