ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

    African Development Institute Inc. The African Development Institute Inc., is an independent, non partisan policy research institute aimed at initiating practical solutions to Africa's developmental crisis. Through education, research, and policy analysis the organization hopes to be a catalyst for developing the human and material potential of Africans. The organization challenges policies that has lead to the stagnation of Africa's development and offers alternative strategies towards continental self sufficiency.

    The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) The Economic Commission for Africa was established in 1958 when its Terms of Reference wereadopted by resolution 671A(XXV) of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations on 29 April 1958. The main organ of ECA is the Conference of Ministers responsible for Economic Development and Planning supported by the Technical Preparatory Committee of the Whole (TEPCOW).

    Information Bank on African Development Studies (IBADS) Information Bank on African Development Studies (IBADS) is an electronic service provided by the Africa Technical Department (AFT) at the World Bank. Its objective is to disseminate information about development studies on Sub-Saharan Africa.

    Institute for International Cooperation and Development IICD offers solidarity work and travel programs to countries in Africa and Latin America. The programs are 5 to 18 months long and include preparation and follow-up periods at the Institute in Massachusetts. After returning to the U.S. participants spent time creating educational materials and make presentations to various universities and organizations about their experiences living and working in developping countries.

    West Africa Rice Development Association The West Africa Rice Development Association is an intergovernmental research association with a membership of 17 countries. Its mandate is to conduct rice research, training, and communications activities for the benefit of the West African region.

    Women, Agriculture and Rural Development: Tanzania The study assesses the role of women in Tanzanian agriculture which is the predominant sector of the Tanzanian economy. In 1992 it contributed 62% of the GDP and employed 79.8% of the labour force.
