Madam Walker: Entrepreneur Trying to find information on black owned enterprises for research, ideas, or support is tough. This is a first attempt to provide a resource to students attempting to conduct research on black owned enterprises.

Links for Information on Black Owned Businesses

  • Universal Black Pages. A comprehensive site created by black graduate students at Georgia Institute of Technology (though not affiliated with the university) - listings of numerous professional, business, and social organizations.
  • Blackenterprise.com. Advertises as the "Virtual Desktop for African-Americans", but this is a site with links to investing and business information. Associated with BE magazine.
  • The Black Pages USA. This site publicizes that it is the largest on-line directory for black owned business. The listings are searchable by city (including a good listing for Hampton Roads). Site also has an Events Calendar and links to social organizations.
  • Black Quest - The Griot. This is a new site with business, magazine, and art links. Some local business links to New York area.
  • BlackSeek. Advertises as "the source for black content on the Internet." This site provides limited information about black retailers in a few areas.
  • The Coalition of Black Investors. COBI is dedicated to developing financial literacy, providing investment strategies, and creating capital for black owned venture through the Ujamma Exchange.
  • Black Entreprise Magazine. The BE100 is the best source of information about larger black owned businesses -- now download listings for free from BE and visit BE's Exchange (a directory of black owned businesses).
  • African American Web Ring. A large source of links to businesses and diverse other interests now called "Soul Search.".
  • mbnGlobal.com. Minority Business Network Global is a online mag covering African-American and Hispanic-American business issues.
  • Floyd Ingram's Den. Comprehensive business and accounting links, plus others. (Updated)
  • LookSmart's Listing of Black Business Directories. This is a search engine site with a fairly comprehensive listing.
